So what did I do to usher in 2008?
It started off in a random note. I was to choose between going to Singapore or Malacca.
I finally decided on the latter due to the cost factor and lazy-ness factor.
I drove myself there. Alone. Something I admire about myself is that I am highly independent. I can seriously enjoy myself without much company. Reached Malacca, got a good parking. Scouted around for budget inns and I had really no idea how the night would be played out. It was like an adventure with no objectives.
Had free dinner thanks to the Eat-All-You-Want-And-Pay If You Feel The Need To-Vegetarian Restaurant. They don’t have any cashiers or whatnaught. You just need to wash the dishes. Of course, they are a Buddhist outfit promoting Buddhism with music and Dharma talks. The usual.
After that, had a bath; changed and went aimlessly walking around Malacca. It was odd. I really did not know where was the buzz. I just walked and walked and walked. The night breeze and the oncoming vehicles made me feel like a drifter. Which I believe I am.
I ended up in a small pub, Bamboo Hut Bistro. Had a Bloody Mary which tasted like really bad tomato juice. Used my P990i for some Internet. Had a few chats here and there on MSN. They were playing some live music. The singer was really good. It was quite a nice atmosphere. Almost. I did wish my friends were with me though to reminince the year 2007 was. They handed out party packs at about 11.30pm. They had party poopers, those glow in the dark glassess, some landyard with a glowing beer mug, and other stuff to usher in the new year.
Then came the countdown and the usual “Final Countdown” song.
Just then, the Management went round every table to wish us Happy New Year. Everyone was hugging everyone and it was quite cool. I met Mike from Perth. A caucassian Aussie and his girlfriend Candy (yeah, what a name). We chatted and I joined them in their table as they saw me all alone. What followed was a crazy night to hunt for open pubs. Meeting really drunk people. The couple were either oblivious that they were drunk or were themselves quite drunk as they thought everyone was so friendly. We saw a little bar brawl at Pure Bar. Walked along aimlessly Malacca Raya.
So anyway, I leeched on them to get to places and to even play a few games of pool for free. Somehow Caucasians get the royalty treatment while we Malaysians can’t even treat each other right. I was quite disgusted but I enjoyed the free perks along the way with these people. They were quite friendly, they shared the same movie tastes as I have. They offered me a stay in Perth whenever I get down. I am more interested in jobs in Perth. Perhaps 2008 will see me in a foreign country working? Hey, who knows?
I think they were really nice people who part way or along the way went a bit off but nonetheless good people essentially.
We finished at about 5am. It was crazy. Barely had much sleep before I was on the move again to watch National Treasure (ok movie) and Enchanted (good movie) . I really wish for a fairy tale ending.
Sometimes all we want is just to believe.

Wow, you did have an adventurous new year eve here but not for me, as I was still wearing the irritating neck collar at that time, so I can’t look up to see the fireworks !!!!
